A Continuum Model of Residential Burglary Incorporating Law Enforcement
نویسنده
چکیده
In 2008, Short et. al. introduced an agent based model of residential burglary founded on the principle of repeat and near-repeat victimization [1]. The model has a natural continuum limit, giving rise to a system of nonlinear PDE. Later, Jones et. al. explored methods of incorporating law enforcement into this model [2]. Here, we expand the work of Jones et. al. by exploring more fully the continuum limit in the presence of police. We propose a variety of policing strategies, two metrics by which to measure their effectiveness, and run numerical simulations of the resulting PDE in order to compare strategies.

Statistical Models of Criminal Behavior: the Effects of Law Enforcement Actions
We extend an agent-based model of crime-pattern formation initiated in Short et al. by incorporating the e®ects of law enforcement agents. We investigate the e®ect that these agents have on the spatial distribution and overall level of criminal activity in a simulated urban setting. Our focus is on a two-dimensional lattice model of residential burglaries, where each site (target) is characteri...

ArcBurg a Promising Residential Burglary-Forecasting Modeling Extension Track: Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Author(s): Kevin Switala This paper describes a developing project originating in the City of Philadelphia Police Department and investigates a promising residential burglary-forecasting raster model. Burglary remains a primary concern citywide and serves as a precipitating crime ...

Context. According to Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention, there is an increase of 19% in residential burglary crimes in Sweden over the last decade and only 5% of the total crimes reported were actually solved by the law enforcement agencies. In order to solve these cases quickly and efficiently, the law enforcement agencies has to look into the possible linked serial crimes. Many st...
متن کاملBurglary Data Mining - A Three Tiered Approach: Local, State, And Nation-Wide
The obvious need for using modern computer networking capabilities to enable the effective sharing of information among jurisdictions has resulted in data-sharing systems which produce huge amounts of data. The vast data thus made available needs to be effectively utilized and analyzed in the form of a data-mining tool for achieving law enforcement goals. In Hillsborough County, using Florida's...

Objectives: This study builds on research undertaken by Bernasco and Nieuwbeerta and explores the generalizability of a theoretically derived offender target selection model in three cross-national study regions. Methods: Taking a discrete spatial choice approach, we estimate the impact of both environmentand offender-level factors on residential burglary placement in the Netherlands, the Unite...
